When CV writing remember the following:
- Be technical and brief - the first page should include a career overview and mission statement.
- Detail core modules / topics studies within qualification history, notably fresh graduates as these
will be a key indicator of suitability for a vacancy.   
- Do not be afraid to highlight key terms / qualifications to draw attention.

- Technical Covering letters
Technical covering letters can significantly improve success rates within the sifting process.
A covering letter will show an understanding of vacancy and can be utilised to briefly summarise
relevant attainments / experience in tune with job description.
A typical covering letter will be brief (a paragraph) but technically factual and will be placed
at the forefront of any application so ‘sell yourself!’

- Preparation for assessment
When preparing for assessment remember the following:
Pre- assessment:
- Garner information from organisation website to fully understand company Culture / Practices /
Values. If waiting in organisation reception / waiting room garner information from company
leaflets and notice boards.
- Understand Job Description / Person Specification fully.
- Ensure you are fully briefed on arrangements of the day and any additional material needed.
During - assessment:
- Ensure full eye contact throughout and a firm handshake, as well as a smart appearance and
attitude.
- Do not be afraid to ask questions as this will convey a genuine interest in organisation / vacancy.
You may even be given the opportunity to relay your feedback on assessment / Organisation /
Vacancy.

- Assessment methods
Assessment is predominantly carried out in the form of a face - to - face / personal - competency
based interview.
Other forms of assessment that can occur are:
Assessment centres:
Comprises of a number of set activities and tasks that a candidate is required to perform during
which time they are observed by an assessor (s) who look for evidence ability against a pre -
determined set of criteria. This process conveys a correlation between exercise performance
with how candidate is likely to perform in job.
Personality and Ability profiling:
Predominantly in the form of questionnaires, Personality profiling will assess how a candidate
perceives himself / herself in a working environment and ultimately if there will be a match to
current organisational culture. Ability profiling primarily takes the form of numerical / verbal
reasoning and assess the ability to interpret information accurately.  
Technical Presentation:
Utilised to assess a candidates ability to communicate and present information to and manage
an audience,  based around relevant work experience in tune with vacancy applying for.
